The Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder has been providing Diagnostic, Intervention and Prevention of FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) services since 2000. We are known across the province and nationwide for our novel, non-judgmental, supportive services.

Our Mission: To establish and ensure that accurate information about FASD, and effective prevention, diagnosis and support services are available in the region.

About The Role:

The 1:1 Support is a member of the Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (LCFASD) team, with specific direction in providing 1:1 post-diagnostic support services to an adult with FASD. This is an outreach position that requires flexibility, ability to manage shifting priorities, and travel. Duties include transportation, life and social skills building, connecting the client to community support services, reporting & documentation, and participation in LCFASD’s performance management & ongoing professional development. Under the authority of the FASD Outreach Supervisor, the 1:1 Support worker assumes responsibility for carrying out assigned duties and responsibilities.

The 1:1 Support worker will be expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends, evidence-based approaches, and best practices within the human services and FASD fields. The 1:1 Support worker will perform all duties and responsibilities while maintaining the integrity of the LCFASD, confidentiality and all other policies outlined in the Policy & Procedures manual and Employee Handbook.

Core Responsibilities

· Provide mentorship, advocacy and support to a complex adult with FASD.

· Assessment of individual needs and collaboration with community agencies.

· Connect individual to community supports.

· Develop and strengthen individual’s advocacy skills

· Communicate best practices and evidence-based strategies to families, support persons and service providers.

· Provide education and training in the community as required.

· Provide support to the LCFASD summer camp.

· Adhere to policies, procedures, and appropriate legislation.

· Complete required reporting and documentation.

· Work within a team capacity at the LCFASD.

About You:

Qualifications

· Post-secondary education in a human services field or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

· Minimum three (3) years of related community-based experience.

· Culturally competent.

· Demonstrated experience in maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and setting appropriate professional boundaries.

· Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook and Word.

Conditions of Employment:

· Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening).

· Child Intervention Record Check.

· A current Class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s abstract and good insurance history is necessary to be insured by LCFASD, as transportation of individuals accessing LCFASD Outreach Services is required.

· This position will require driving and use of personal vehicle when the LCFASD vehicle is not available.

· Proof of third-party insurance in the amount of 2 million dollars is required.

Assets:

· A Bachelor’s degree in a human services field will be considered an asset.

· Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder will be considered an asset.

· Experience supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities, at-risk populations, and knowledge of barriers to employment will be considered an asset.

· Experiencing working with First Nation, Inuit or Métis Peoples considered an asset.

Benefits of working with LCFASD:

Salary: Hourly wage starting between $22.89 - $25.71. Hourly wage will be determined by education and experience.

Schedule:

· Hours of work are flexible within a one-month time frame: 36.25 hours per week not to exceed 145 hours per 4-week period.

· Hours may be outside of LCFASD office hours (8:30-4:30pm).

· Overtime may be required.
