Benefits & Disability Specialist

Term: Permanent

Location: Hybrid

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Salary: $75k-$85k

As an integral member of the Burnbrae Farms Human Resources team, the Disability & Benefits Specialist will provide strategic case management for all occupational (i.e., worker's compensation) and non-occupational disability claims/cases (i.e., STD and LTD). The Disability & Benefits Specialist will work closely with site leadership and the insurer to promote employees' early and safe return to productive employment. In addition, the Disability & Benefits Specialist will perform timely and accurate benefits and pension administration, including but not limited to, enrollments, terminations, changes, invoice reconciliations and remittances.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Proactively manages all STD and LTD claims, collaborating with site leaders, HR and the insurance company to promote an early and safe return to work
  • Prepares physical demands analyses (PSA's) for each position within the organization
  • Collaborates with our third-party Workers' Compensation claims administrator to manage all occupational injury claims
  • Supports site leaders to ensure appropriate return to work accommodations are in place and return to work plan is adhered to
  • Provides regular updates to site leaders and HR Managers regarding the status of ongoing claims
  • Conducts regular follow-up with employees during claim period
  • Acts as a resource for employees, supervisors and managers for questions related to disability claims, benefits and pension
  • Provides updates, as required, with respect to changes to benefits and pension
  • Performs all benefits administration, including the timely and accurate enrollment and termination of employees into the group benefits and pension program
  • Reconciles benefits premium invoices and pension contributions to ensure accuracy
  • Prepares remittances for benefits and pension on a monthly basis

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • College diploma or university degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of national disability claims management experience
  • 5+ years of benefits administration
  • CHRP/CHRL or CDMP designation considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Teams
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Service oriented, self-starter with a proactive approach to claims management
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and collaborate across business units
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in a multi-jurisdictional environment with knowledge of H&S and Workers Compensation legislation across multiple provinces
  • Bilingualism in English and French, an asset
