Position Description

Biostatistical Analyst

A biostatistical analyst position is available within the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at SickKids Hospital working with Dr. Ratjen’s research team. The successful candidate will assist in designing clinical studies, as well as conduct data management and analysis for research purposes. The focus of the work will be on both retrospective and prospective observational studies in the cystic fibrosis (CF) population using longitudinal clinical databases. Tasks may include data manipulation of large datasets, conducting statistical analyses for studies, and preparing summary data analytic reports and publications.

Here's What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Provide statistical expertise during the planning, design, data interpretation and analysis, and reporting phases of research studies.
  • Collaborate with team members on presentation of results in tables and figures in preparation for academic abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts
  • Seek input from relevant teammates or collaborators, exploring the constraints / requirements and proposing design decisions based on that input
  • Assist and mentor students, research assistants, etc. with statistical analyses.
  • Manage datasets for merging, sorting, matching and transforming; databases of varying sizes will be utilized ranging from small clinical studies to very large, multi-site longitudinal studies, and population-based administrative databases.
  • Data management and cleaning, analysis, and data quality monitoring.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transfer of and access to complete and high-quality datasets

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • MSc (or other thesis-based graduate degree) in a discipline related to health research (e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics, etc).
  • Previous direct involvement in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of a clinical or epidemiological research study, with prior experience with longitudinal datasets preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate methodological and statistical issues with clinicians and trainees with varying levels of knowledge and training in these areas.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills to deliver time sensitive inquiries and deliverables
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Past experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment preferred.
  • Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team
  • Experience working with statistical programs: e.g. STATA, R, SAS
