Job description

Chubb is the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer with operations in 54 countries, exceptional financial strength, and a broad range of personal and commercial insurance products. As an underwriting company, we assess, assume and manage risk with insight and discipline. We service and pay our claims fairly and promptly. We combine the precision of craftsmanship with decades of experience to conceive our craft and deliver the very best insurance coverage and service to individuals and families, and businesses of all sizes.

Chubb’s insurance businesses in North America serve clients ranging from the largest multinationals, mid-size companies and small businesses to successful individuals and families.

Chubb’s Canadian branches are Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver.

We are a unique global organization with a culture of individuals passionately committed to our respective crafts. With underwriting at our core, each of us contributes to providing the best insurance coverage and service to our clients. Working together, we are one Chubb. Our highly collaborative, inclusive nature helps us drive better business outcomes through diversity of background, experiences, insights and values. We approach problems with a can-do attitude and are committed to developing deep relationships — all while moving quickly to meet client needs.

All recent graduates will join the Chubb Associate Program (CAP), a comprehensive 2-year program designed to develop broad insurance fundamentals, technical proficiency, and cross-functional insurance knowledge and networks. Our training program ensures that you begin your career with the tools and training necessary to succeed in a variety of roles within the underwriting and claims career paths.

CAP is a truly blended curriculum that includes coordinated classroom training, webinar training, online self-study, on-the-job learning, group project work, mentoring and networking. By design, the program includes exposure to various functional units, internal learning programs and professional designation studies. As part of CAP, you will receive:

  • Challenging assignments and the opportunity to contribute to the results of a team;
  • Collaborative learning and group assignments with program members to help gain broader organizational understanding;
  • Technical training to deepen your skill level within your chosen discipline and an understanding of our broader industry;
  • Interpersonal effectiveness skill development to help you enhance communication and interactive skills;
  • Executive engagement allowing program members the opportunity to network and learn from Chubb’s thought leaders;
  • Peer mentoring support to help members navigate through professional situations in their early development;
  • A pathway to leadership development opportunities and global assignments.

From Day One, you will play an active role within the organization by developing new ideas, having exposure to new business opportunities, and providing service to an existing renewal portfolio. To be successful, you will need to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with our brokers and interface with them to develop winning solutions. Your analytical abilities and strong broker relationships will help Chubb grow profitably and reach our overall business targets.

Chubb also encourages you to continuously develop your professional skills and supports your external training through our Investment in Education Program, which offers tuition reimbursement, study and exam days, and designation awards.

Overall, your training will never stop at Chubb.

We recruit individuals from a variety of backgrounds including Commerce, Arts, Engineering, and Science, who demonstrate superior teamwork, leadership, analytical and decision-making ability, business acumen, and exceptional communication and sales skills. The skillset needed to do our jobs is varied and challenging - applying often to new graduates from various programs and schools. We are currently recruiting for Associates to join our Underwriting (Commercial Insurance, Financial Lines, Personal Risk Services, Major Accounts) and Claims departments.

Underwriters in general weigh the risks associated with a prospective customer’s business, determine if the business meets Chubb’s criteria of acceptability approve or decline the risk, negotiate contract terms, determine pricing, and work closely with independent brokers to manage the business they place with Chubb.

From the moment you join Chubb, you will begin the process of learning and applying a variety of underwriting skills. You will be given a “book of business” to manage and your success will come from your own efforts. To be successful, you will need to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, with your assigned group of external brokers. This will allow you to learn more about their clients’ needs and encourage the broker to submit to us their business. Your strong relationships will make your brokers want to choose you and Choose over the other insurance carriers they do business with.

Once a risk is submitted, you will investigate, evaluate, and analyze it to determine if it is a risk worth taking or renewing. In order to do so, you will need to research and understand the client’s risk, whether personal or commercial in nature. You will develop appropriate contract wording and pricing. Finally, you will negotiate and market our product to your brokers in order to secure new business and retain existing business.

Ultimately, your analytical abilities and strong broker relationships will help Chubb grow profitably and reach out to overall business targets.
