What responsibilities will you have in this role?

  • Delivers Work Experience preparation courses to Co-op students using appropriate employment preparation materials (lesson plan, handouts, etc.), including the preparation and management of Blackboard.
  • Prepares and advises students individually and through classroom instruction re the transition from college to the workplace.
  • Provides individual assessment of resumes and cover letters and assists students in the design of their job search strategy.
  • Assesses student’s progress and job readiness for the workplace.
  • Develops Co-op job opportunities by targeting specific industry segments and employers and marketing the GBC Centre for Business Co-op program.
  • Develops and maintains quality relationships with ongoing industry partners by acting as the main point of contact ensuring needs are being met.
  • Assists with the organization of special events to solicit employer involvement and support student engagement.
  • Conducts on site monitoring visits to solicit feedback from the employer about student progress on the job and to ensure that the students’ learning outcomes are progressing.
  • Evaluates co-op students through the on-site monitoring process and through employer evaluations.
  • Assists with the job posting/closing/application process on GBCareers.
  • Collaborates with faculty by providing input on student assessment and ensuring that grades are compiled and posted.
  • Adheres to policies/processes/procedures already developed for the Centre for Business and Co-op Office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What qualifications do you need for this role?

  • Three year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Adult Education, Human Resources, Management Marketing, Management, Accounting and Finance or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in adult education delivery and facilitation, demonstrated knowledge of labour market trends and business concepts.
  • Experience in supporting students/clients in job development, recruitment and selection, employment coaching; career preparation process for post-secondary students; combined with strong marketing and public relations skills.
  • Excellent research skills to identify the target markets and to follow the labour market trends in the industry and to demonstrate the ability to use labour market statistics for anticipating future work terms.
  • Proven track record of success from past work experience in soliciting potential employers through various networking strategies.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills and persuasion skills to succeed in securing externships for hundreds of students in a very competitive job market.
  • Must have current knowledge in the employment market to present self to employers as very knowledgeable and understanding of their needs when placing students in their employ; must be able to develop a good trusting rapport quickly with employers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in computer skills and ability to prioritize events and oversees the coordination of faculty and industry related special events.
  • Professional level business writing skills, report writing, overall have a high level of English communication skills to deal with students who may have English as a second language and not understand the expectations of the employers; excellent Liaison skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to oversee large case load while balancing other duties with non-negotiable deadlines and conflicting priorities; must have attention to detail.
  • Able to travel occasionally to other campuses.
  • Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, teamwork, and people skills.
  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.

Hours of Work: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Note: Hours of work will vary depending on Class Scheduling.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
